My Cake Adventure!

Some of you know that my MIL "commissioned" me to make a birthday cake for my FIL. No problem...she wanted it to be baseball themed. Okay...should be fine. I wanted to make a baseball cake that was sort of 3D. Well, I don't have one of those nifty Wilton Ball Cake Pans. No problem..I will just bake it in one of my stainless steel mixing bowls. Well the cake was in the oven for well over well over an hour and about a 1 1/2 inch circle in the center was still batter! I didn't want the cake to turn into charcoal so I did want any inventive mother would do. I scooped out the batter and when I leveled the cake I took the extra and stuffed it in the middle! To keep it together until it cooled completely I stuck a bunch of skewers through it.
Once it was cooled I decorated it. I haven't done decorating with a star tip in a long time but I don't think I did too bad for someone who only does it about once a year (although it will probably be more since I do the children's cakes...and hubby's too!) I also made some cupcakes in case the cake tasted like it was "well done." I didn't hear any complaints from the crowd though. So that's good!

Great cake! I wish you could teach me to decorate cakes. I will be making Chloe's and am a little bit nervous about using the "star tip".
