BookSneeze: Love and Respect

Image
I find it so funny that I am able to write a review for Love and Respect by Dr. Emerson Eggerichs. Beloved and I were going to read this book, along with a couple that are friends of ours, for a study. We ended up meeting one time and our schedules got so crazy it never was continued. Anyway, when I was offered a chance to review this book I figured it would be a great opportunity to finally finish reading it. I am glad I did! Book Description- A Marriage Book with a Difference! A Revolutionary Message "I've been married 35 years and have not heard this taught." "This is the key that I have been missing." "A lightbulb moment." "You connected all the dots for me." "As a counselor, I have never been so excited about any material." "You're on to something huge here." A Simple Message A wife has one driving need -- to feel loved. When that need is met, she is happy. A husband has one driving need ...

BookSneeze: Voices of the Faithful 2

Image
Okay, okay....I know...another review. :-) But I am behind on getting these posted. I received this book from BookSneeze in exchange for my review. From BookSneeze- A new year's worth of inspiring stories from the front lines of faith. "A willingness to go is all they have in common," says Beth Moore and Kim P. Davis, speaking of their friends on the front lines who are spreading the gospel around the world and with whom they collaborated to create this book. This second book of 366 daily devotionals features stories of God's faithfulness, written by hundreds of missionaries worldwide. From stirring miracles to heroic adventures, this second volume highlights those who daily go to the outer limits of spiritual devotion. A follow-up to the first book which has now sold 300,000 copies. Granted I am only seven days into this book, but I have found it enjoyable to read daily. It has provided me with encouragement to help me get my day started. I haven...

BookSneeze Review: Lee (The Generals)

Image
Boy....am I ever behind on getting this review posted. *shaking head*  It's a good book too. I just let things get in the way of posting this review. So....without waiting any longer. Here is my review.  Description from the Publisher:  A powerful, compact biography of Robert E. Lee, focusing on how his intrinsic goodness shaped everything from his battle tactics to his treatment of his troops. It’s no surprise that Robert E. Lee graduated second in his class from West Point. His four years there were marked by exemplary conduct and nary a demerit. He went on to become one of the most successful generals of the Confederate army during the American Civil War, inspiring his troops with his unselfish character and devotion to duty. Lee’s string of victories earned him praise on both sides of the Mason-Dixon line. He was admired for his tactical success in battle, and even after surrendering to Ulysses S. Grant at the Appomatox court house, his example of cond...

The Portable Patriot- A Book Review

Image
From the Thomas Nelson website : What does it mean to think, believe, and act like an American? Too often reduced to a mythic set of lofty ideals, the soul of America is far more than a concept—it is a people. Even the most sacred principles mean very little unless lived out passionately by an informed citizenry. In The Portable Patriot, you’ll find a carefully assembled sampling of American history’s most formative words, written by the people who were making that extraordinary history. Speeches and sermons, essays and extracts, poems and proclamations illumine such values as independence, virtue, humility, thrift, prayer, and reliance on God. While peering back to the cradle of America’s national identity, The Portable Patriot also points a way forward, compelling us to heed poet John Dickenson’s plea to “rouse your bold hearts at fair Liberty’s call.” Crack open The Portable Patriot, and you’ll discover. . . Puritan Pastor John Cotton’s warning on the dangers of exces...

Book Review: John Bunyan

Image
When I had the opportunity to review this book, John Bunyan by Kevin Belmonte, I couldn't wait to receive the book. I have always been interested in Pilgrim's Progress. My children love watching a couple of different videos that we have about the book. So I wanted to know more about the man that wrote the story that is a favorite with my family. I liked that this book wasn't too heavy/or dry reading. It flowed nicely and kept me interested. (Which needs to happen for me to continue reading with such a busy schedule.) It's a quick read...it really is. :-) This book has a simple and informative approach to educating the reader on the life of John Bunyan. I will be adding this book to my homeschool resource. The length and writing style is perfect for a younger reader so it will be a great asset to our lessons. :-) So if you are looking for a quick and informative read on John Bunyan....I would recommend this book. Disclaimer: I was provided with a complimentary copy of ...
