More Thriftiness

I have always been the one to cut my son's hair. Well..my FIL cut his hair the very first time and 2 times since. But in 3 years of cutting hair..I was his barber. The thing is, I always used a pair of clippers. Well our clippers "bit the dust" about 6 months ago. I finally got up the nerve to cut Big T's hair with just scissors. Here are pics of during and after.







So, what do you think. I am pretty proud of of my very first attempt. I see a few "scragglies" that I need to take care of, but those are just minor. At least I saved us at least $10. It's fun to come up with ways to "save money." Plus...I figured if I messed up we could purchase a pair of clippers and just give a "summer cut" early.

WOW... you go, girl!!!! I used to cut my oldest son's hair but really didn't do a very good job!! haha He is 10 and still remembers the time I cut his ear! UGH. But now my 2 oldest boys get "high and tights" and want nothing else!! It looks super easy and I know I could definitely use our clippers and do that. I've done many crew cuts in the summer but the "high and tight" is different. I know I'd have to do the "b" word... BLEND!! UGH just writing it scares me!! haha I have messed it up everytime I try it!!!
Your son's hair looks AWESOME!!!! I'll have to get daring and do a search about the haircut technique and try to master it!!!!
Thanks for the encouragment of yet another way to save money!!! Our boys go to a barber (who's father used to cut my Grandfather's hair!) and its about $8 per boy and we go about every 3 weeks or so. If I get daring...I'll post some pix!! :) Bridge

You did a wonderful job. I used to always cut both Michael's and Joshua's hair. I still do Michael's hair sometimes. As Joshua became an older teen, I could not do exactly what he wanted. =) He paid for his own though, so I did not complain.

Great job on the haircut. I used to cut James hair but I just couldn't get things right so I am not allowed to cut it any more.

Great hair cut Melanie. That style looks so nice on him. I and the Wahl Clippers were best of friends back when my boys were little......LOL. They are now 20 and 21 and Mom still gets the Wahl clippers after their hair. They are stingy with their money when it comes to going to a barber, and after all, Mom has been their Barber for years (free of charge) :)

You did a great job on his hair, I cut my boys' hair as well, my best friend is a beautian and her dad is a barber so she taught me how, and have been doing it ever since, unless I just hurt and can't do it when they really need it. I even trim up the girl's hair as well. With 5 children it gets expensive. I do love the clippers as well, but can do the scissors when needed, not as good as when done professionally but you learn how to cover up those little goofs. I won't touch hubby's though, he's too picky :)

Illness and Ouchies

Well...we have had an interesting start to our week. In the early hours of Monday morning Sweet E woke up 2 different times and had thrown up in her bed. She seemed perfectly fine and I took her to a local store. We were inside for maybe 2 minutes and she threw up again. So....I got her home and let her take a nice LONG bath. Then we didn't have any problems the rest of the day. Today....she didn't seem quiet like herself, but no big deal. Them about 7:45 this evening she threw up again. But now she is running around like it never happened. Both boys appear to be fine. Now...here is were the Ouchies come in. On Monday afternoon when Sweet E was sleeping, Little E fell onto something. It took the top layer of the skin on his lip off and cut his gums. I still don't know what happened exactly. He had a pretty big lip for the rest of the day. The swelling is barely even noticeable today. So..how is everyone else's week going? ;)

Yesterday I was in our side yard raking up a pile of leaves for Sweet E to play in and I saw something out of the corner of my eye. It was bright red. I looked down and saw three bright red objects in the grass. I picked them up....I have never seen these before.
